>Babies and cats, all in a day’s visit

>

Signs that there’s a baby on board — booties, special beaded flatware (every baby needs art in her life), relaxing CD (harp music).

Yes, those are Green Bay Packer booties. This little angel may live in the greater Chicago area, but she’s part of a Packer fan family. We’ll make sure she’s dressed appropriately.

Packer slippers are not so rare in my house, nor is a laptop computer. However, this is a scene not seen in our home: the Cat Top computer.

Notice how brother (dressed in his proper green and gold to watch the Packers defeat the Seahawks) takes this all in stride? The cats demand their place, and they will not be denied. Well, unless the baby needs feeding or changing.

>Plurkers in Pictures

>Ah, my Plurk friends. They cheer me up when I’m down, help keep me up when I’m already feeling pretty darn good. Together, we are a network of friends, professional colleagues, and more.

We share our accomplishments: “earning” a badge for having an empty inbox —
— or building a house of cards, er, sorry, I meant a castle of hotel room keys.
We share Good Morning greetings —

— and say good night.

Here’s hoping you wake up to the smell the coffee or other delicious aroma, enjoy your friends’ notable and not-so-notable achievements, and sleep like a baby tonight.

>Rear Window – and Squirrel?

>While I was hiding in the bathroom on a snowy day, this little furry creature came running up the lilac bush right outside the window. I laughed out loud – so loudly I gave away my hiding place and Amigo called to find out what was so funny.

The nimble furball with the long tail then tried to get to the roof. Why? No idea.

My new little fuzzy friend then slipped and slid down the tree, eventually grasping a branch for dear life. At one point even the tail was wound around the branch for balance.

Finally, the small furry one found a secure perch and stopped for a snack. By this time, I was enjoying its presence so much I didn’t mind that it was nibbling on my lilac buds and branches. In a snowstorm, food is hard to come by for the urban wildlife.

>Welcome to the world, baby girl!

>

Welcome to my newborn niece, Audrey Kathryn.

La Petite thinks she looks like a burrito in this picture. Honey, it’s called swaddling.

Here she is, thoughtful already.

“So, Mom, have you given any thought to my world? Stick to organic cotton and fewer chemicals in my baths, and I’ll grow up healthy and strong. And cute, too.”

And last, my baby brother is now a dad. Wow.

Look at those cheeks. Is she not adorable?

>Preparing for winter, thinking of spring

>The chairs are stacked, and the cushions are stowed away in the basement.

The new composter is set up on bricks, within reach of the driveway. I will actually be able to compost coffee grounds and filters all winter long!

I’m still thinking about the old bunny hutch. The hutch is old, not the bunnies. Our pet rabbits have house privileges now; we don’t use the hutch any more. I’ve been stashing my garden tools there. The debate: should I take down the hutch completely? The rhubarb could expand into this area. Or should I keep it, take off or repair the doors so it’s more usable? I think I’ll decide in the spring.

Still to be done: put away the little cello-playing frog (hiding behind white roses) and take care of the roses. The rosebush on the right is a knock-out breed; according to my current information (provided by my mother) it doesn’t need to be cut back and insulated for the winter. It’s trying to send up one more bloom before the snow comes. Should I chance it?

>A Bridge Party

>

This was the view in front of us.
Behind us, the river.
Amigo applauded the band when the ceremony was done.

Then we visited Chuck, hard at work keeping the news of the Bridge Grand Opening on the air.
Doesn’t the inside of this truck remind you of the cockpit in the movie Airplane?

And finally, we walked the length of the bridge (before traffic was allowed!) to get us back home. Home, for a warm drink and a snack.

The bridge is open to traffic now; maybe soon I’ll drive across the brand new span!

>Creative marketing and signage

>There’s more than fish at Pike Place Market in Seattle! There is coffee, of course. I sampled my share of the refreshing beverages. And as we wandered the booths of produce, I kept saying, “Honey, can we move here? I want to live here.” Husband (a.k.a. Chuck) was kind as he reminded me that no, we had to go home.

But meanwhile, behind the big sign….

We shopped for cheese and we found this tip jar.

This sign not only announced what they were selling (fresh herbs), but gave a Rhyme Time reasoning to buy!

If you want to buy an avocado, though, be gentle.

And as for the beans, don’t touch — or even consider it!
At least they said “Thanks.”

This offer may seem extreme, but they were handing out sample slices. The fresh and juicy peaches really did make people shout out in praise.

Sometimes, the hanging bundles need no written description. They sold themselves.

If I can’t move there, can we go back? Soon? I’m free tomorrow….

>Inbox, Outbox, and Pile of Things I Can’t Face

>

The piles of paper grow. And grow, and grow, and grow. My goal: before spring break, which will arrive much too late for my taste this year, minimize the paper piles. Deal with them all, or organize them to a point that they don’t look quite so intimidating.

Yes, there are two coffee cups on the desk. One is empty, needing rinsing. The other is full of whatever blend I made that morning. I wasn’t drinking double that morning!
