Long ago, a wise leader spoke these words as the Continental Congress adopted the first draft of a courageous document, the Declaration of Independence.
“I am apt to believe that it (Independence Day) will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary festival…It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games, and sports, guns, bells, bonfires, illuminations, from one end of this continent to the other, from this time forward, forevermore.”
— John Adams, in a letter to his wife, Abigail
Amigo and I are home today. Our plan:
Watch Brewers Baseball in the morning (games and sports)
Patriotic Sing along at noon (shows, bells)
Grill burgers for supper (bonfires, perhaps?)
In general, relax.
Have a great holiday!

John Adams was a very wise man!
Today I celebrate the Great Revolutionary battle of “Oriskany” where three of my ancestors were killed. Ancestor Johann Snell was late to the battle and survived. he was late to the battle because his wife hid his gun. Johann is a direct ancestor. If he wasn’t late that day……….
My daughter (in the future known as Marian the Librarian) is currently looking into joining the DAR (daughters of the American Revolution).
Our ancestors are named on a monument at the battlefield of Oriskany. The battlefield is now a National Park. I have walked the entire battlefield.
I, like my ancestors, stand ready for battle if needed.
An added note regarding standing ready for battle.
I do not own an Assault Rifle, nor do I intend to. I do own a military rifle, my dads 1903 Springfield from WW1. I own many hunting guns which are locked safely in the gun cabinet.
I am a Free Mason. It is said that a majority of the participants in the Boston Tea Party were Masons. The Tea Party participants threw tea in the harbor as their other choice was rum.
Paul Revere was a Mason. If he rides by my house I will likely go to bed.
